UKCRFN SMT Deputy Lead for Workforce Development

Business and Operations Manager at NIHR Guy’s and St Thomas’s CRF

Kate is the CRF Business and Operations Manager at the NIHR CRF at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ (GSTT) NHS Foundation Trust where she is responsible for the operational leadership of the CRF’s four units. Kate works with her clinical, operational and quality assurance teams to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of research across the four units. To attract new business to the CRF and engage the patient and the public about the research delivered in the CRF Kate works with her team on various open house, school and community events. Additionally, Kate collaborates with colleagues across the CRF Units and GSTT Research and Development (R&D) to support the development of staff to foster a safe, efficient and effective workforce.

With formal training in the arts, communication and education Kate likes to say she came to work in research by chance. Since then she has worked in clinical research in Australia and the United Kingdom across a variety of roles and teams. Kate enjoys working in clinical research because of the diverse range of staff and the mix of skills they bring to their teams.  Kate enjoys using mentoring, coaching, facilitation and competencies to support her staff to develop research-specific and transferable skills. As the Deputy Lead for Workforce Development Kate is able to champion her passion for staff development across the UKCRF Network and support the development of evolving research roles though the UKCRF Network’s collaborations with the NIHR.
